Freelancing Updates and Travel Plans

Spring is in the air! It’s been a fun and exciting season, that’s for sure. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve gone from posting weekly to semi-weekly (that means I’m posting twice a week – don’t worry, I had to Google the difference between bi-weekly and semi-weekly too).

There are a few fun happenings around the corner, so I thought I’d do a quick update on my freelancing progress and upcoming travel plans.

Career-wise, I’ve been learning a lot. I’ve always been totally honest on this blog, and I plan to continue that, so I’m going to admit that freelancing is going a little more slowly than I would like. Going from living on my own and having a full-time job for three years to being back in my parents’ house is kind of hard on my pride, and I CANNOT WAIT to be financially solvent again.

I’m adding clients, but it’s taking a while. I’ve been home (minus my travels) since October. Let’s put that into perspective: I’ve spent the past half year living at my parents’ house. This would be OK if I was fresh out of college, but I have a good five years of independence under my belt. Living at home has been really pleasant, but I’m wary of getting too comfortable. I need to make sure I keep my eyes on the prize.

My plan is to continue networking so I can grow my list of clients. In addition to writing articles and blogs, I have experience in social media strategy and web content. I’m trying to spread the word about these skills so I can help people and businesses grow their online presence. So far, that’s mostly meant writing blogs, landing pages and social media posts, but I would eventually love to expand into strategy work and consulting.

Speaking of online presence, I’ve been using my own personal brand as a playground to learn about what works and what doesn’t. I’ve been focusing heavily on growing my social media following – something I never paid professional attention to before going freelance. I’m happy to say that these efforts are really paying off. My engagement is up by about 200% across all channels, so while I have a relatively small number of followers in the grand scheme of things, my following is growing pretty rapidly.

This is important to me because there’s some big stuff on the horizon in terms of my blog! I’m keeping it a secret for now, but stay tuned for an announcement within the coming weeks.

And finally, I have a trip coming up: I’ll be in Southern California next weekend for COACHELLA!!!

I am really, really excited for this. I’ve wanted to do Coachella for years, but the right situation never presented itself. I suggested the idea to my boyfriend a few months ago, and I’m happy to say that he jumped right on board. My sister has helped me pick out my outfits (the stakes are high for this event, obviously) and I’m really happy with everything we’ve chosen.

So keep checking back! Next week, I’ll give some insight into my diet philosophy and how I got into nutrition. After that I’ll be posting about my Coachella adventures (and, of course, my outfits!), followed by my big blog announcement (can you guess what it is?).

Like I said, spring has definitely sprung.
